On August 6 the Marin IJ sections, Editorial and Marin Voice, both raised concern for the longstanding need of a workable improvement plan for the deteriorating Golden Gate Village in Marin City. This Marin Housing Authority low-income property, built in 1960, was the subject of the 2018 Marin County Civil Grand Jury report, Golden Gate Village: The Clock is Ticking which depicted entrenched and unresolved issues, some voiced in the articles, and offered recommendations. Currently energized by the Black Lives Matter movement, tenants propose a renovation plan in disagreement to the property redevelopment plan by a private nonprofit that firstly constructs new buildings. Historical trauma, mistrust and funding continue to be serious hurdles.
