On January 31, 2025 the 2024-2025 Civil Grand Jury released its first report, “Responses to the 2023-2024 Marin County Civil Grand Jury Reports: An Overview” which reviewed and investigated agencies’ responses and actions to the recommendations of the prior year’s reports.
Each year, the Grand Jury investigates local governmental operations and issues reports recommending areas for improvement. This report summarizes the agencies’ responses to the ten 2023-2024 Grand Jury investigative reports, which collectively total 72 findings and 59 recommendations. Thirty-eight agencies including the Board of Supervisors, the District Attorney, the Sheriff, the Marin Resource Conservation District, the Marin Municipal Water District, the Office of Education, the Bel Marin Keys Community Services District, cities and towns, and public-school districts, were each required to respond to at least one report.
The county agencies, cities, and towns that responded to the reports agreed or partially agreed with 90.2 percent of the findings and have implemented or agreed to implement 75 percent of the recommendations made by the 2023-2024 Grand Jury. All the required Marin County public agencies satisfied their legal obligations to respond to these reports.
The report is issued in the interest of transparency, accountability, and responsiveness of local governments.
